I hope this is added, and then made optional. Whilst you're standing there admiring your killing move in slow motion, I will walk over and chop off your head.
The only way this could be implemented would be for everyone in the instance to experience slow motion at the same time, something which I would find horrifically annoying.

level cap and instances
I'm fine with a low level cap and while the current set up with instances is nice, it still cuts down on the meeting of friends. Usually in other games my best friends are ones I met in a map/zone somewhere and they either saved my bacon or vice versa... I miss that part of it.

Concept art of male Elementalists/Mesmers shows some old dude with a long beard.
The thing I missed was the mana and health potions, like in Diablo 2. Really had no idea how to heal myself after I got pummeled by 3 river skales.

AFAI can remember the chests were added later, and then some time later, due to chinese chest-bots, they were locked and keys added... Then again maybe I'm misremembering, because I also remember those barrels in pre.
However I realize I really meant NON-random loot, ie that there'd be, say, caves where a boss was guarding a treasure chest, which you'd open as a reward for killing the baddie. Much like how it is in pretty much every single-player RPG and in the EOTN dungeons now.

I was surprised when I learned that it actually mattered where I got hit on my body (for armor purposes). I remember the first armor I crafted; I did the boots and the gloves first and salvaged my shirt to make pants. Then I ran around bare-chested for a while, wondering why I was often taking more damage than before...

I'm glad there there are no elves and their won't be (although Sylvari are similar they are also unique). As for Dwarves, I also like the fact that after fighting the Great Destroyer, the Dwarven Race is nearly extinct. I also love Guild Wars unique race...the Charr.
As for things I was shocked about:
Although GWs was my 1st MMO, I was dissapointed you couldn't jump (as stated above), and when I started in Proph I was dissapointed that the only race you can play as is humans. I got over that though as I progressed through the story.

As strange as it may sound, I thought there were going to be big epic battles like in + 100 players of one guild vs + 100 players of another guild. Some sort of raids, but more like a medieval battlefield.
An auction house.
More armor choices. When prophecies came out we didn't have that much choice as today. But I realised that with each campaign/expansion, new armors would arrive.

I can't point to a reference, but I think Anet have said that there will never be elves in a Guild Wars game. They decided they prefer to have their own creations (early alpha had goblins and ratmen too, but they got stripped out - I'd guess the dwarves were too involved in the storyline to strip out).
The armour system was one thing that surprised me - while more realistic than the typical method, it still took me quite a while to realise just how the armour did work. The other thing that surprised me at the time I first played the game was the general lack of spellcasting classes - at the time, there were only Monks and Necromancers. Mesmer was only available as a secondary profession, and I remember being one of the people who voiced support for introducing the Elementalist.

Yes I forgot about that one. Till this day, I'm still wondering why they don't have an official forum. Was it to safe money, moderating etc.?

Well, coming from WoW ...
The lack of elves is an improvement, but I could have done without the nasty clanking dwarves also to tell you the truth. Maybe Gnomes, though, simply because they are elitist and obnoxious.
What is lacking ... auction house noticeable. Mail system maybe. A genuine shape shifting class, PvE only, would be nice. A real summoner class, PvE only. Other things lacking to jazz up PvE: crossbows (give me a crossbow darnit); black powder rifles at least (I want to hear my weapon go bang).
Mounts really don't fit in, but perhaps we could have had sedan chairs with bearers to carry us longer distances?
Some sort of profession, crafting of some kind, but given the items system in the game there is not much room for one.
Jumping, swimming, flying ... at first they seem really nice .. but they don't really do all that much for me and I don't miss those features.
Integrated world ... overall, I prefer the instanced world in this game and others I have tried. What I really like is going into an instance and knowing it is mine, mine, all mine. No interfering sod "other players" to spoil my fun.
And, you know, strangely enough I have made friends in this instanced world as easily as in WoW's integrated world; in fact it was easier in GW and I am not at all completely sure why.
